After the success of Taste of Reno 2009, the second installment will have a high standard to live up to. This sampling of music will have something for just about every music enthusiast who enjoys the local scene.
The Taste of Reno works a dual purpose for the University of Nevada, Reno’s Nu Alpha Kappa. First, it financially supports the fraternity’s Easter Sunday charity event called Nakland and, second, it benefits the bands that play the show.
The styles of these local bands span many different genres, from rock, to breakcore, pop punk, to death metal, grindcore, to screamo, progressive, to hardcore and from hip hop to rap.
Below is a sampling of some of the musical flavors that will be at the Taste of Reno show:
• The Airplane Game is a rock band that describes itself as not fitting into any cookie-cutter image. They concentrate on bringing fans energetic representations of what music today is often lacking: the music itself.
• Anthropophagus is a death metal band that has been hitting the local music scene with its technical metal for the past year.
• Beyond The Pit is a metal band that believes “Music is about fun, everyone these days are more focused on talent,” according to the band’s MySpace page.
• The Chicago Outfit is a band that is not from the midwest city, so don’t let the name mislead. The band members’ influences range from Protest the Hero to Elvis. Its sound is a harmonious blend of multiple genres and life experiences.
• Leviathan is a Christian metal band that spreads the word of God through heavy worship to show its fans that there is still hope in the world. The band members feel that God speaks through their music providing purpose and life to all who are in earshot of their heavy metal sound.
• Lil Rasta Boi can be heard on radio stations from Sacramento to Phoenix on the song “Twitter” featuring Young Cash. Lil Rasta’s musical influences span genres and generations and include Jimi Hendrix and Eminem.
• Also appearing will be June Set Fire, Passports, Pyro, She Has a Fashion Vice, The Waiting Ends, Wayward, Weston and Wolf City.
The Taste of Reno is Saturday at 5 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. at the Knitting Factory at 411 N. Virginia St.
