INCLINE VILLAGE – Join the Tahoe Rim Trail Association for American Hiking Society’s 17th annual National Trails Day event. TRTA and partners will hold a ground breaking ceremony for 13 miles of new trail followed by volunteer trail work on June 6, starting at 9 a.m. The event will begin at the historic barn in Van Sickle Calif/Nev Bi-State Park off Lake Parkway in Stateline, To participate, register at www.tahoerimtrail.org or call Ben Storrud at 298-0239. Speakers include agency partners from the U.S. Forest Service, Nevada State Parks, California Tahoe Conservancy and Nevada Division of State Lands.

This year will mark the first phase of the multi-year project, which will ultimately connect the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) with the Van Sickle State Park, re-route the TRT off paved roads and provide stunning views of Lake Tahoe to more people. Volunteers will receive free lunch sponsored by REI and the day will conclude with a celebration at Explore Tahoe, the urban trailhead. Tasks on this day will be available for volunteers of all skill levels and physical abilities. Families are welcome.

Volunteers must wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, boots, and work gloves as well as bring sunscreen, bug spray, water and a backpack. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association will provide hard hats, trail building tools and crew leaders. Parking is limited – contact TRTA for more information.
