CARSON CITY — Nevada Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta was honored on Thursday as a 2012 Woman of Achievement by the Nevada Women’s Fund, a non-profit community foundation in northern Nevada.

“Your achievements make you an inspiring choice for recognition, and we are pleased to honor you,” Isabelle Rodriguez Wilson, president of the Nevada Women’s Fund, stated in a letter to Justice Saitta.

Justice Saitta received her award during the Nevada Women’s Fund Salute to Women of Achievement event at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by the Nevada Women’s Fund, which has done so much to promote women’s causes and achievements,” Saitta said. “We have seen the results of these efforts in the legal and judicial fields, where women have made great advancements during recent decades.”

The Nevada Women’s Fund is dedicated to strengthening the community by empowering women to improve their lives and the lives of their families. The organization identifies critical social needs and addresses those needs through educational initiatives and community grant making.

In addition to being an awards ceremony, the event raised funds to support the Nevada Women’s Fund.

Justice Saitta began her judicial career when she was appointed as a Las Vegas municipal court judge in 1996. Two years later she was elected to the district court in Clark County, where she created the specialized Complex Litigation Division for case management of construction defect and other voluminous cases. The achievement received national recognition in 2003.

At the Supreme Court, she is co-chair of the Court Improvement Committee and is chair of the Judicial Public Information Committee.

Prior to taking the bench, she was a senior deputy attorney general and served as the children’s advocate for the state of Nevada.
