LAKE TAHOE — The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) has an action-packed winter filled with activities, including National Winter Trails Day on Jan. 7 in South Lake Tahoe, plus other free public snowshoe hikes, Winter Camping 101 and even a special St. Patrick’s Day snowshoe search for the “pot ‘o gold.”

For National Winter Trails Day, the North Lake event has been consolidated into the South Lake event due to the lack of snow in the Tahoe Basin. Held annually across the country, NWTD was created to give a little push to people new to the winter recreation scene. The South Lake NWTD event will take place at Van Sickle Bi-State Park (parking at the back of Harrah’s) whether or not there is snow on the ground. The TRTA and its many partners will team up for guided hikes, gear demos and a warming party at Explore Tahoe.

If you’ve got your own snowshoes, bring them along; if not, we’ll have some demonstration pairs for you to test out that day. Come meet some local outdoor groups and companies from the area, and enjoy free hot drinks and delicious snacks.

Participants are encouraged to register in advance for this event. Online registration can be completed at www.tahoerimtrail.org. For more information, call 298-0012 or email Jaime at jaimes@tahoerimtrail.org.
