RENO — In the spirit of giving back to the community, the Reno Bike Project (RBP) has partnered with the Children’s Cabinet to give free bikes to children in need. Community members have generously donated many kids’ bikes to RBP. To get ready for the Free Wheels for the Kids event on Dec. 18, RBP will host two bike repair parties at the shop at 541 E. Fourth St. today and Saturday, Dec. 17.

In 2010, the RBP gave away 100 free bikes during the event and look forward to exceeding that number this year.

The Reno Bike Project is a nonprofit community bicycle shop and advocacy group committed to creating a nationally recognized, cycling-friendly community in the Truckee Meadows. Since 2006, the bike project has worked through advocacy, education and cooperation to increase enthusiasm about bicycling as a positive lifestyle and transportation alternative. The organization is built around the belief that the bicycle is the world’s greatest, most utilized mode of transportation and that every individual, regardless of age, gender, race or class, has a right to afford, maintain and enjoy one.
